U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga visited the official John Deere assembly and service facility in Shashamane, highlighting ongoing cooperation aimed at supporting Ethiopia’s agricultural modernization.
The facility is operated by Kegna Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing, a public private partnership between the Oromia Regional Government and Gedeb Engineering PLC. According to the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, the partnership is working to expand access to modern agricultural machinery for Ethiopian farmers.
The embassy stated that John Deere, an American agricultural equipment manufacturer, has supplied more than 4,500 tractors, combines, and other farm implements to farmers across Ethiopia through financing initiatives designed to improve access to high quality equipment.
The visit underscored the role of public private partnerships and international investment in strengthening Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and promoting greater mechanization to improve productivity.
