On its first agenda item, the Cabinet discussed a regulation to determine the tax rates and collection of the revised municipal income tax for towns in the region.

The Cabinet held detailed discussions on the need to amend the previous regulation so that towns can collect taxes in line with current market conditions, using their available revenue sources, and put the money to proper use in development.

The Cabinet noted that the revised regulation widens the tax categories under which the region’s towns collect revenue, strengthens their income capacity, and creates an enabling environment for using that income on development work. After detailed discussion, the Cabinet approved the amendment by unanimous vote.

On its second agenda item, the Cabinet discussed the amended regulation on solid waste management, disposal and green development in the region’s towns.

The Cabinet said the amendment was needed to address waste disposal problems in towns, where the volume of solid waste has risen sharply because of rapid population growth, industrial expansion and increased construction activity.

The Cabinet said the revised regulation will establish a scientific and modern waste management and disposal system, help prevent damage to the beauty of towns and to the environment, and make it possible to recycle waste and turn it into a resource. It approved the regulation by unanimous vote.

On its third agenda item, the Cabinet discussed a regulation issued to establish and administer the Tsetse Poultry Multiplication and Feed Processing Center under the regional Agriculture Bureau.

The Cabinet said the establishment regulation is necessary for the center to continue the agricultural development work it has begun in poultry resource development, multiplication of improved chickens, egg production and feed processing. It approved the regulation by unanimous vote.

On its fourth agenda item, the Regional State Cabinet discussed a development project and budget plan to further beautify Assosa city’s corridor development using bamboo resource products.

The project will use the bamboo resources for which the region is widely known to boost the growth and development of the corridor work in Assosa, make the city comfortable for residents and turn it into a tourist destination.

The project includes standard city entrance development, roadside development, cafes, roadside recreation areas, seating and shades, among other development works. The Cabinet discussed the project and, noting that converting bamboo resources into development is important for further advancing Assosa’s growth, approved it by unanimous vote for implementation.
