Dr. Abraham Belay, speaking on Fana media Corporation regarding national security developments, stated that Eritrean military forces were fully involved in operations on the front lines using complete military equipment. He asserted that multiple Eritrean soldiers had been killed and hundreds of personnel captured during clashes in the Tigray and Afar regions, alongside the seizure of military hardware.
Warning against violations of national sovereignty, federal representatives emphasized that external actors entering Ethiopian territory to ally with regional armed groups would face severe consequences.
These statements follow remarks made a week prior by Afar Regional State President Haji Awol Arba. The regional leader reported that Eritrean forces had crossed the border to participate alongside the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and allied local militias along the Erebti and Ab-Ala fronts.
Regional authorities further claimed that identification documents belonging to Eritrean soldiers were recovered from the area following the clashes.
The disclosures highlight growing friction and concerns over border security along Ethiopia’s northern periphery as regional administrations and federal bodies address reports of foreign military presence on sovereign soil.
