The Addis Ababa City Administration on Friday inaugurated the first phase of the Gelan Gura Industrial Park, a large scale manufacturing and business hub expected to create thousands of jobs and strengthen the city’s industrial capacity.
According to city officials, the industrial park covers a total area of 93.9 hectares. The newly completed first phase was developed on 43 hectares and is expected to support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) through improved production and business infrastructure.
Mayor Adanech Abiebie said the project reflects the city administration’s commitment to expanding industrial development and employment opportunities for young people. Officials stated that the industrial park is expected to create more than 20,000 jobs once fully operational.

The city administration noted that the park is designed to help local manufacturers increase productivity and competitiveness while encouraging the production of import substituting goods. Authorities also said the project aims to strengthen links between producers and consumers and support export oriented manufacturing.
Officials further indicated that the industrial park could contribute to foreign currency generation by enabling local industries to access international markets.
The Gelan Gura Industrial Park is part of broader efforts by the Addis Ababa administration to expand urban industrial infrastructure and attract investment into Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector.
