Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — May 15, 2026 | Horn News Hub

A book documenting the ongoing transformation of Addis Ababa was officially launched on Friday in the presence of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.

Titled The Remaking of Addis Ababa: Reimagining Addis Ababa, the publication explores the Ethiopian capital’s recent urban development and modernization efforts. According to organizers, the book was independently written and published by international writers and diaspora scholars who closely followed the city’s transformation process.

The authors said the publication examines the changes taking place in Addis Ababa, highlighting infrastructure development, urban renewal projects, and efforts aimed at reshaping the capital into what they describe as a modern and inclusive metropolis.

Among the contributors are Simon Lee, Clement Katulushi, and Hirpo Kumbi, along with other members of the research team.

During the launch event, city officials expressed appreciation to the authors for documenting what they described as a significant period in Addis Ababa’s development. Officials said the international attention given to the city’s ongoing projects reflects the broader impact and visibility of the transformation efforts.

The publication also highlights the role of Addis Ababa residents in supporting the city’s development through public participation, labor contributions, and community engagement.

Addis Ababa has undergone extensive corridor development, housing, infrastructure, and public space projects in recent years as part of broader government-led urban renewal initiatives. Supporters describe the projects as essential for modernization and economic growth, while critics have raised concerns over displacement and the social impact of redevelopment in some areas.

City authorities said efforts to continue modernizing the capital will proceed in the coming years.
