The Hague, July 3, 2026 — Members of the Tigrayan diaspora community in the Netherlands held a rally outside the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, where they submitted an appeal letter expressing concerns over reports of forced military conscription and renewed war preparations in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.

According to the organizers, the letter was received by a representative from the Ministry’s Africa Department (DAF). During the demonstration, participants discussed their concerns about the security situation in Tigray, including allegations of forced conscription and restrictive legislation, and outlined the potential humanitarian consequences.
Organizers said the ministry representative acknowledged their concerns and indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would take the issues raised into consideration.

According to the organizers, the representative stated that the Netherlands remains committed to supporting efforts to prevent renewed conflict and military escalation in Tigray through cooperation with the European Union and other international partners.
The organizers also said they were informed that the Ministry’s Africa and Middle East Department is monitoring developments in Tigray and is working on updating the official Ethiopia country report (Ambtsbericht). The report is used by the Dutch immigration authorities when assessing asylum applications and country conditions.

Following the meeting, representatives of the Tigrayan diaspora community said they viewed the discussion as constructive and expressed their intention to maintain dialogue with Dutch officials on issues related to developments in Tigray and their potential implications for Dutch foreign and asylum policy. This version uses a neutral, third-person news reporting style, attributes claims to the organizers where appropriate, and avoids promotional language.
