Ethiopia has been selected to host the Second African Political Parties Summit (APPS 2026), the flagship annual convening of the Africa Governance Centre’s African Political Parties Initiative. The summit is scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa in late October 2026 under the theme: “Governing for Growth: Political Parties as Architects of Africa’s Economic Future.”

The summit underscores the critical role of African political parties in advancing democratic governance, strengthening institutions, and driving economic transformation across the continent.

Ethiopia’s selection reflects growing continental recognition of its experience in leveraging political party institutions to promote democratic renewal, economic reform, and national development.

The inaugural summit was successfully convened in Accra, Ghana, in August 2025, bringing together heads of state, political party leaders, policymakers, scholars, and development partners from across Africa and beyond. The gathering culminated in the landmark Accra Declaration, which affirmed a shared commitment to democratic consolidation, inclusive governance, and development-oriented politics.

As part of preparations for APPS 2026, Adem Farah, Vice President of the Prosperity Party and Head of the Main Office, today received Benedicta Lasi, Chair of the Executive Council of the Africa Governance Centre, at the Prosperity Party Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

During the discussion, Adem Farah highlighted the importance of African-owned platforms that foster constructive dialogue among political parties and strengthen their contribution to democratic governance, economic transformation, and continental development. Both sides emphasized that political parties must evolve beyond their electoral functions to become effective institutions for policy innovation, leadership development, nation-building, and long-term economic stewardship.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to working closely together to ensure the success of APPS 2026 and to advance its vision of positioning African political parties as key drivers of inclusive transformation in Africa.

The summit is expected to convene heads of state, political leaders, policymakers, economists, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, academics, and development partners to explore how Africa’s political parties can contribute more effectively to sustainable economic transformation and the realization of the continent’s long-term development aspirations, according to Prosperity Party
