Adanech Abiebie announced that Abiy Ahmed has officially launched the first of its kind “Addis Mesob” Mobile Digital Government Service in Addis Ababa, marking a new step in Ethiopia’s ongoing digital government reform.

In a statement posted on her official Facebook page in Amharic, the mayor said the initiative aims to address long standing challenges in public service delivery that have persisted for years with limited transformation. She noted that the newly introduced “Mesob” one stop digital platform is designed to improve efficiency, expand accessibility, and bring services directly to residents.

According to the mayor, the government remains committed to fulfilling promises made to citizens by improving service delivery and reducing bureaucratic barriers. She also highlighted the successful implementation of a unified infrastructure model, which she said will help reduce operational costs, maintain consistent service quality, and standardize service delivery across service centers.

The Addis Mesob mobile bus service has now entered full operation, bringing government services closer to communities and reducing the need for residents to travel long distances to access essential public services.

Officials said the mobile unit is equipped with modern service delivery systems, alternative power sources, and high speed network connectivity. Camera installations and system configurations have also been completed, while essential infrastructure has been put in place following successful pilot testing.

The mobile Mesob one stop center is currently providing a range of public services, including:

• Issuance of new Tax Identification Numbers
• Business license issuance and renewal
• Medical examinations required for obtaining a driver’s license
• ID renewal and birth registration
• Driver’s license issuance and vehicle plate renewal
• Ethiopian Postal services including road fund payments
• National ID registration and data correction
• Prepaid electricity services through Ethiopian Electric Utility

City officials say the initiative is expected to improve accessibility, efficiency, and convenience for residents while supporting Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation agenda.
