The Entrepreneurship Development Institute, in collaboration with the Oromia Job Creation and Vocational Bureau, has launched a new early-stage startup bootcamp in Bishoftu aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The program, known as the Dhaweeyyii Oromia Bootcamp, began on April 27 and brings together 120 innovators selected from nearly 1,000 applicants. Participants are taking part in a 10-day intensive training designed to help transform early business ideas into investment-ready ventures.

Organizers say the initiative focuses on building practical skills, refining business concepts, and improving market readiness. The training also provides mentorship and tools intended to help startups develop scalable and sustainable solutions.

Speaking at the opening session, EDI Deputy Director General Boru Shana called on participants to actively translate ideas into practical solutions that address real market needs. Wasehun Golga, Deputy Head of the Oromia Job Creation and Vocational Bureau, emphasized the government’s continued focus on nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset as a driver of innovation and job creation.

At the conclusion of the program, the top 30 participants are expected to advance to a regional competition that will be broadcast on television, offering further exposure and potential investment opportunities.

The initiative reflects broader efforts to support youth-led innovation and expand employment opportunities through entrepreneurship, particularly at the early stages of business development.
