Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud, President of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional Youth Council and an Executive Committee member of the Ethiopian Youth Council, has held talks with Mr. Anas, Head of Diplomatic Affairs at the Moroccan Youth Council. The discussion focused on strengthening youth diplomacy, cooperation, and partnership between the two youth councils.

The meeting reflects a growing effort by Ethiopia’s youth institutions to build direct links with their counterparts abroad. Youth diplomacy, in which young leaders engage across borders on shared priorities such as employment, education, and civic participation, has become an increasingly important complement to formal state relations. Through this exchange with the Moroccan Youth Council, Ambassador Mohammed represented the aspirations of Ethiopian young people on a platform that connects two nations and two youth movements.

The engagement is consistent with the record he has built. Ambassador Mohammed has taken part in several international youth conferences, including gatherings in Russia and other countries. At these forums, young leaders from different nations exchange experience, discuss common challenges, and explore practical partnerships. His participation has helped place Ethiopian youth voices in conversations that extend well beyond the country’s borders.
His work also has a strong regional base. As head of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional Youth Council, he has supported efforts to link young people with job opportunities, vocational training, and entrepreneurship, and has called for stronger cooperation between youth and the private sector so that young people can benefit from the natural and economic resources of their region.

Recently, the council under his leadership visited Bamboo Star Agroforestry P.L.C in Asosa to examine how sustainable resource use can create employment for young people.
Observers of the youth sector note that this combination of local engagement and international outreach is what distinguishes his leadership. At home, his focus is on practical opportunities for young people. Abroad, his focus is on building relationships that can bring knowledge, partnerships, and visibility to Ethiopia’s youth generation.

The Ethiopian Youth Council, in which he serves, describes its mission as empowering young minds to shape a brighter, united Ethiopia. It presents itself as a voice for youth and a force for impact, working to unite, lead, and inspire young Ethiopians to build a better tomorrow. Ambassador Mohammed’s activities, from regional job creation initiatives to diplomatic meetings with foreign youth leaders, are widely seen as a practical expression of that mission.

For many young Ethiopians, his visible presence at both regional and international levels offers an example of what committed youth leadership can achieve. His message that young people should be connected to opportunity, skills, and partnership continues to resonate across the communities he serves.

As cooperation between the Ethiopian Youth Council and its international partners develops, Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud is expected to remain an active participant in efforts to strengthen youth diplomacy and to advance the interests of Ethiopia’s youth generation.
