The President of the Afar Regional State, Awel Arba Unde, has issued a congratulatory message to residents of the region, the Ethiopian public, and Muslims around the world on the occasion of the 1447 Hijri Eid al Adha holiday.
In his message, the regional president highlighted the religious and social importance of Eid al Adha, stating that the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are regarded in Islam as a period of devotion, charity, and reflection.
He said the holiday serves as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, compassion, and support for vulnerable members of society, including low income families, orphans, and people in need.
The president also linked this year’s celebration to what he described as a broader period of political and economic transformation taking place across Ethiopia and within the Afar Region.
According to the statement, the regional administration has been implementing reforms aimed at improving agricultural productivity, expanding access to clean drinking water, and strengthening social infrastructure such as schools and healthcare facilities.
The message further noted that infrastructure projects designed to support trade and regional economic integration are continuing in different parts of the region.
President Awel stated that the regional government remains committed to addressing public development priorities and sustaining ongoing projects intended to improve living conditions.
Addressing the political situation in the country, the regional leader said the holiday comes shortly before Ethiopia’s upcoming seventh national election, which he described as an important stage in the country’s democratic process.
He called on citizens to participate peacefully and responsibly, urging the public to uphold tolerance, respect the rule of law, and avoid actions that could create division during the electoral period.
The message concluded with wishes for peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of the region and the country as a whole.
