Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has highlighted a new wave of accelerated housing construction methods following a visit to a government housing demonstration site where multiple modern building technologies were deployed simultaneously.
The Prime Minister said the site brought together three construction approaches in one location, including 3D printing, light steel prefabrication, and container based housing. He described the models as evidence that high quality housing can be delivered within days or weeks rather than traditional timelines that often stretch across months or years.
According to his remarks, the demonstration reflects a broader shift in Ethiopia’s housing strategy, where speed and construction quality are no longer seen as competing priorities. Instead, the focus is on integrating advanced technology to increase efficiency while maintaining standards.
Officials involved in the project presented the site as a testing ground for scalable solutions that could be replicated across different regions of the country. The approach is intended to support efforts to expand urban housing supply and address growing demand in fast expanding cities.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the integration of these technologies aligns with the government’s wider development agenda. He added that the project demonstrates practical progress in translating national planning into visible results on the ground.
The housing initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernize Ethiopia’s construction sector and explore alternative building systems that reduce time, cost, and material constraints while expanding access to housing.
