Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, July 10, 2026 — United States Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga said the U.S. is committed to working closely with Ethiopia to help promote peace and stability in the East African region.
Speaking at an event attended by Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, Ambassador Massinga stated that the United States intends to strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia in the areas of security and regional partnership to support lasting peace and stability across East Africa.

According to the ambassador, closer collaboration between the two countries is essential to address shared regional challenges, including terrorism, cross-border security threats, and human trafficking. He emphasized that intelligence sharing and institutional cooperation are key components of efforts to counter these complex security issues.
Massinga also noted that strong and effective security institutions are fundamental to ensuring sustainable peace and security in Ethiopia and the wider region.

The event also included discussions on cybersecurity, the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence (AI), and the protection of critical infrastructure. Ambassador Massinga said the United States aims to further strengthen its long-standing partnership with Ethiopia in these technology and security sectors while promoting greater transparency and accountability.
