Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the Entoto to Kechene Medhanealem Riverside Development Project was officially opened on Monday, a day after Ethiopia’s 7th General Election.
In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page, the Prime Minister said the project has transformed previously degraded areas in the capital into green public spaces through soil conservation efforts, river purification works, and the development of fruit parks linked by pedestrian and cycling routes.
According to Abiy, the riverside development corridor extends for 22.25 kilometers and forms part of broader efforts to improve the urban environment and public spaces in Addis Ababa.

He described the project as a practical example of environmental restoration, urban renewal, and national development, noting that it aims to enhance the city’s landscape while creating recreational areas for residents.

The Entoto to Kechene Medhanealem project is among a series of urban development initiatives undertaken in Addis Ababa in recent years, focusing on river rehabilitation, environmental sustainability, and public infrastructure improvements.
