President Mustafe Omer Secures Landmark Win in Degahbur Constituency Election

Addis Ababa, June 19, 2026 — The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has officially certified the final results of the Degahbur constituency elections, confirming President Mustafe Omer as the highest vote-getter among the elected candidates.

According to the certified results, the ruling Prosperity Party secured four of the five contested seats, while the opposition Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) won one seat, ensuring opposition representation within the constituency’s elected delegation.

The results underscore the Prosperity Party’s strong electoral standing in Degahbur and suggest continued public support for the regional administration led by President Mustafe Omer. Electoral outcomes at the constituency level are often viewed as important indicators of voter confidence in governance, development initiatives, and public service delivery.

President Mustafe Omer’s performance is likely to be interpreted by supporters as a reflection of public approval for the administration’s policy agenda, including efforts to expand infrastructure, strengthen institutions, and improve access to essential social services across the Somali Region. Since taking office, the regional government has prioritized stability, institutional reform, and development programs aimed at addressing longstanding economic and governance challenges.

The election results also highlight the presence of political diversity within the constituency. By securing one seat, the ONLF maintains a voice in the representative process and contributes to broader policy discussions affecting local communities. The participation of opposition representatives is widely regarded as an important element of democratic governance and inclusive political representation.

Beyond the distribution of seats, the Degahbur election carries broader significance for regional representation and policymaking. The constituency’s elected representatives will play a key role in advancing priorities such as employment creation, infrastructure development, improved public services, and local economic growth.

For the Prosperity Party, the outcome provides a strong mandate to continue implementing its policy objectives in Degahbur. At the same time, electoral success brings heightened expectations from constituents, who will assess the effectiveness of their representatives based on tangible progress in governance, service delivery, and development outcomes.

The results therefore represent both a political endorsement and a responsibility to deliver on public expectations. While the ruling party has secured a clear majority of the contested seats, sustaining public confidence will depend on effective leadership, responsive governance, and continued efforts to address the needs and aspirations of the local population.

With the certification process complete, attention is expected to shift from electoral competition to governance and implementation, as newly elected representatives prepare to assume their responsibilities and contribute to the next phase of Degahbur’s political and developmental progress.
