Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — May 11, 2026 | Horn News Hub

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said he held discussions on Monday with Kristalina Georgieva, focusing on Ethiopia’s economic progress, ongoing cooperation, and shared priorities between the government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In a statement shared on social media, the prime minister said the meeting included an exchange of views on the country’s economic trajectory and partnership with the IMF. He also expressed appreciation for what he described as an “insightful conversation and continued engagement.”

The meeting comes as Ethiopia continues implementing wide ranging macroeconomic and financial reforms supported by international partners, including the IMF and the World Bank. The government has recently pursued measures aimed at stabilizing the economy, attracting investment, and restructuring debt amid ongoing fiscal pressures and post conflict recovery efforts.

The IMF has remained a key partner in Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda, particularly following discussions related to debt treatment, foreign exchange reforms, and efforts to strengthen economic resilience.
