The Afar Sultanate and the Afar Regional State Bureau of Intergovernmental Relations have expressed their deep condolences following the death of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In a joint statement, the Afar Triangle Sultanate and the Afar Regional State Bureau of Intergovernmental Relations said they were saddened by the passing of the former emir and extended their sympathies to Qatar.
The Crown Prince of the Afar Sultanate, Hanfare Alimirah, and the Head of the Afar Regional State Bureau of Intergovernmental Relations, Alimirah Mohammed Ali Hamid, visited the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Addis Ababa to convey their condolences in person. They also expressed their sympathies to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Government of Qatar, and the Qatari people.

During the visit, Crown Prince Hanfare Alimirah signed the embassy’s book of condolences in honor of the late former emir.
Officials at the Qatari Embassy said the longstanding friendship between the Afar people and Qatar has endured for many years. They also recalled that the late Afar Sultan Alimirah Hanfare was highly respected in Qatar and held in high regard by both the Qatari leadership and its people.
Embassy officials thanked the Afar delegation for visiting the embassy and expressing solidarity during the period of mourning. They said the gesture reflected the close relationship between the Afar and Qatari peoples and expressed appreciation for the condolences offered.
The Afar delegation concluded its visit by once again expressing sorrow over the death of the former emir and offering prayers that God grant him Jannatul Firdaus, the highest level of Paradise in Islamic belief.
