Addis Ababa is set to host the first ever African Social Media Influencers Summit on May 7 and 8, 2026, an event expected to bring together digital creators, media leaders, policymakers, and private sector innovators from across Africa.

Organizers say the summit aims to explore Africa’s growing digital influence and strengthen collaboration among content creators, technology leaders, and institutions shaping the continent’s online space. The gathering will focus on innovation, digital entrepreneurship, media responsibility, and the role of influencers in shaping public discourse and economic opportunities.

Speaking to Horn News Hub by phone, journalist and summit organizer Gemeda Olana said participation from across the continent has exceeded initial expectations.

He noted that many prominent African influencers and digital figures have already confirmed their attendance, describing the summit as a significant moment for both Ethiopia and the continent.
According to Gemeda, the event is not only about social media but also about showcasing Africa’s untapped potential to the global audience. He added that hosting the summit in Addis Ababa offers an opportunity to highlight Ethiopia’s growing role in digital innovation, tourism, and continental engagement.

The summit is also seen as a strategic opportunity for Addis Ababa to showcase its expanding role as a continental meeting point. Over the past few years, the city has increasingly hosted regional and international conferences, reflecting broader investments in infrastructure, tourism, and urban development.
Officials and observers note that such events contribute to positioning Addis Ababa not only as Africa’s diplomatic capital but also as a growing hub for digital innovation and tourism. Improvements in road networks, conference facilities, hospitality services, and urban beautification initiatives have strengthened the city’s ability to host large scale international gatherings.

The summit is expected to attract participants from across the continent, creating opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and partnerships in Africa’s fast evolving digital economy. It may also boost tourism by drawing visitors, content creators, and media coverage that highlight the city’s cultural and economic transformation.
With Africa’s digital audience expanding rapidly and social media becoming a powerful tool for business, governance, and storytelling, the African Social Media Influencers Summit is expected to mark an important milestone in shaping the continent’s digital future.

The event will take place in Addis Ababa from May 7 to 8, 2026, bringing together voices from across Africa to explore how digital platforms can support innovation, economic growth, and regional collaboration.
