The Somali Regional State Government Communication Bureau has disputed a travel advisory issued by the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa concerning Doolo Zone, saying the notice does not reflect the current security situation in the area.
In a statement issued on September 17, the regional communication bureau said the advisory, issued on September 16, was released without sufficient verification or consultation with the regional administration’s peace and security institutions.
The bureau said assessments by regional authorities and relevant security institutions indicate that Doolo Zone remains peaceful and stable. It said government institutions continue to operate normally and that the movement of people and vehicles, commercial activities and public services are continuing.
The regional government said it prioritizes the safety and security of residents and visitors and that authorities would provide official information if any security developments require public precautions.
The bureau also called on diplomatic missions and other organizations issuing travel advisories to verify information and consult relevant regional authorities before publishing such notices.
The statement said travel advisories based on incomplete information could cause unnecessary concern and present what it described as a misleading picture of the security situation in the region.
The U.S. Embassy’s September 16 advisory and the specific security concerns cited in it were not addressed in detail in the regional government’s statement.
