U.S. Embassy Honors EPHI’s Century of Public Health Service

U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga has congratulated the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) on its 100th anniversary, recognizing the institute’s century of contributions to protecting public health in Ethiopia.

In a video message shared by the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Massinga said the United States has partnered with EPHI for more than 60 years to strengthen public health systems and combat infectious diseases that threaten both Ethiopians and Americans.

The ambassador described the long standing cooperation between the two countries in the health sector as a key component of the broader bilateral relationship and expressed hope for its continued expansion.

“Congratulations to the Ethiopian Public Health Institute on 100 years of protecting Ethiopians. For over 60 years, the United States has partnered with EPHI to strengthen public health and combat infectious diseases that threaten both Ethiopians and Americans. Here is to another 100 years and to continued U.S. Ethiopia health cooperation,” Ambassador Massinga said in the video message.

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute serves as Ethiopia’s principal public health institution, leading efforts in disease surveillance, laboratory services, health research, emergency preparedness, and public health policy. The institute has played a significant role in responding to infectious disease outbreaks and strengthening the country’s health system over the past century.

The ambassador’s remarks highlighted the enduring cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States in public health and reaffirmed Washington’s support for continued collaboration with EPHI in addressing current and future health challenges.
