ADDIS ABABA — United States Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin J. Massinga on July 23 co chaired a Public Private Dialogue with Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) Commissioner Dr. Zeleke Temesgen and Chief Macroeconomic Advisor to the Prime Minister Ambassador Girma Biru in Addis Ababa, with discussions centered on strengthening commercial ties, improving market access, and promoting investment.
The meeting, held at the Skylight Hotel, brought together representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Investment Commission, and officials from various government ministries. According to the U.S. Embassy, the dialogue aimed to advance commercial diplomacy and translate high level commitments into practical business opportunities for U.S. companies operating in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Massinga said that creating an open, transparent, and predictable business environment is essential for attracting greater U.S. investment and supporting private sector led economic growth. He also encouraged the Ethiopian Investment Commission and private sector representatives to develop a targeted action plan to address business bottlenecks affecting investment and commercial operations.
The U.S. Embassy said business leaders participating in the dialogue presented evidence based concerns and recommendations, while Ethiopian government officials responded directly to the issues raised during the discussions.
According to the embassy, the dialogue forms part of ongoing cooperation between the United States, the Government of Ethiopia, and the American business community to support Ethiopia’s economic transformation, expand business operations, and promote economic growth that benefits both American and Ethiopian businesses.
