U.S. Embassy, Hawassa University Open American Space in Hawassa
HAWASSA, Ethiopia — July 22, 2026 (Horn News Hub) — The United States Embassy, in collaboration with Hawassa University, has officially opened the American Space Hawassa, a new public learning and engagement center aimed at promoting education, dialogue, and access to information.
The facility was inaugurated on July 21 by U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga, Sidama Regional State Vice President Beyene Barasa, and Hawassa University President Dr. Chirotaw Ayele, who jointly presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony.
According to the U.S. Embassy, Ambassador Massinga said the American Space is open to everyone and free to access, describing American Spaces as places that encourage learning, dialogue, and the free exchange of ideas.
The ambassador also met with alumni of U.S. Embassy exchange programs, who shared how the knowledge and skills they gained through the programs have supported their academic and professional development. He later interacted with students as they explored the facility’s newly installed technology and learning equipment.
