The European Union Delegation to Ethiopia has expressed concern over the evolving situation in northern Ethiopia, citing recent developments in the Tigray region that it says could undermine the implementation of the 2022 Pretoria Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).
In a statement, the EU Delegation pointed to actions by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), including the establishment of what it described as a parallel regional council and the unilateral enforcement of military conscription in Tigray. According to the delegation, these actions are inconsistent with the provisions of the Pretoria peace agreement.

The EU stressed the need for all parties to resume discussions on the concrete implementation of the CoHA, describing renewed dialogue as urgent to preserve peace and stability.

The delegation also reiterated its support for mediation efforts led by the African Union’s High Representative, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, aimed at advancing the implementation of the peace agreement and promoting lasting stability in northern Ethiopia.
