Ethiopia’s 7th General Election Reflects Growing Democratic Participation, Says GCS

The Government Communication Service (GCS) says Ethiopia’s ongoing 7th General Election process is showing increasing public participation and a growing democratic culture across the country.

The remarks were made during a panel discussion held in Adama under the theme “The Role of Media for Successful Democratic Elections.” The forum was organized by the Ethiopian News Agency in collaboration with the Authority for Civil Society Organizations.

Speaking at the event, Enatalem Melese said elections represent a practical expression of public participation and decision making. She stated that the ongoing electoral process reflects strong civic engagement and growing democratic experience among citizens.

According to the minister, the process also indicates a strengthening democratic culture in the country. She emphasized that media institutions carry significant responsibility in ensuring that the election process remains credible, inclusive, and successful.

Meanwhile, Tesfahun Gobezay stressed the role of the media in promoting public awareness on national unity and shared interests.

He said national interest remains one of the major issues uniting Ethiopians and called on media institutions to present election coverage in a way that supports social cohesion and protects the country’s broader interests.
