The Board of Directors of the Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) has reviewed progress on a series of institutional reforms and digital modernization efforts aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s media regulatory system.

The review session, held Thursday evening, was chaired by Redwan Hussein, Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) and Chairman of the EMA Board. The meeting assessed the implementation of the Authority’s ongoing 100 day reform plan launched in January 2026.

During the session, board members examined progress reports detailing efforts to integrate modern digital technologies into the Authority’s regulatory framework. A key presentation focused on infrastructure development being implemented in partnership with the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute. The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen oversight mechanisms, and modernize regulatory processes.

Board members also provided feedback and recommendations intended to improve the technical rollout and accelerate implementation of the reforms.

Officials said the digital modernization and institutional reform efforts form part of broader measures to strengthen regulatory capacity, improve service delivery, and adapt Ethiopia’s media governance system to the country’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
