A strategic security warning has been issued to Western diplomats and Ethiopian authorities following public remarks by Kidane Amene declaring links with armed and extremist groups operating across the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.

The alert, released by the Horn of Africa Geopolitical Review, described the statement as a significant escalation with potential regional and global security implications.

During a media briefing, Kidane Amene openly stated that actors aligned with his political and military network maintain connections with Al-Shabaab and the Ansarallah, commonly known as the Yemeni Houthis. The remarks were made publicly as part of his broader assessment of regional alliances and security dynamics.

According to the analysis, the statement marks a rare public acknowledgment of cooperation between local political actors and internationally recognized armed movements operating beyond Ethiopia’s borders.

The Horn of Africa Geopolitical Review further indicated that Kidane Amene is widely understood to operate within networks aligned with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, adding to concerns about cross regional coordination.

Al-Shabaab is an armed extremist group based in Somalia and affiliated with Al-Qaeda. The group has conducted attacks across East Africa and has been linked to regional instability and cross border operations.

The Ansarallah has also drawn international attention following attacks on maritime routes in the Red Sea, a key global trade artery connecting Europe, Asia and Africa.

The security assessment also referenced the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood, noting growing regional linkages amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Security analysts described the development as the potential emergence of a hybrid threat environment, where domestic political actors intersect with transnational armed and extremist networks. Such alignments, they said, could reshape conflict dynamics in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa.

The report outlined several potential consequences, including increased vulnerability within Ethiopia’s internal security architecture, the expansion of cross border armed coordination, and heightened risks for diplomatic missions and international development operations.

The analysis also highlighted growing concerns about Red Sea security corridors, warning that expanding networks between regional actors and armed groups could further complicate maritime security and global trade routes.

The Horn of Africa Geopolitical Review called for immediate attention from Ethiopian authorities and Western diplomatic missions, urging strengthened intelligence monitoring, coordinated counterterrorism engagement, and strategic reassessment of regional security risks.

Security observers note that the Horn of Africa is entering a period of increasingly complex geopolitical alignments, where political movements, armed groups, and transnational actors are becoming more interconnected. Analysts warn that early recognition of these developments may be critical to preventing broader regional escalation.
