Abiy Ahmed Meets Saudi Foreign Minister to Discuss Bilateral and Regional Issues
Addis Ababa, February 11, 2026(HNH)— Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, at his office in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional developments.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions centered on expanding cooperation across key sectors and enhancing coordination on regional and global issues of shared interest. The two sides reviewed existing partnerships and explored ways to deepen economic and diplomatic engagement.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier indicated that the visit would include talks on regional developments and joint efforts to promote peace, security, and stability. The meeting comes at a time of shifting dynamics in the Horn of Africa and the broader Middle East, where both countries have sought to play a more active diplomatic role.

Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia maintain longstanding relations, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, labor migration, security matters, and religious ties. The two countries share deep historical and spiritual connections, particularly through Islam, which links communities across the Red Sea and reflects centuries of interaction. Saudi Arabia is also home to a large Ethiopian diaspora community, making bilateral engagement significant for both governments.
