African Leaders Review AUDA NEPAD Progress, Reaffirm Commitment to Accelerating Agenda 2063 Implementation
African leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the delivery of the continent’s development agenda, placing political leadership at the centre of implementation under the African Union’s long-term blueprint, Agenda 2063.
The pledge was underscored during the 43rd Session of the Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC), where leaders reviewed progress in strengthening the African Union Development Agency, AUDA NEPAD, as the continent’s principal development delivery institution.
Discussions at the session focused on how AUDA NEPAD has evolved over the past four years from a largely coordinating body into a delivery oriented agency with a stronger emphasis on measurable results. Participants noted that this shift has been guided by sustained political oversight from the HSGOC and a shared determination among member states to convert continental strategies into concrete projects at national and regional levels.
The meeting also reflected on strategic priorities for the next phase of the Second Ten Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063. These include scaling up development delivery, mobilising financing led by African institutions, strengthening implementation capacity across regions and countries, and ensuring that development outcomes have a direct impact on citizens.
Officials said the focus going forward will be on closing the gap between policy commitments and real world results, as the African Union seeks to translate its long term vision into inclusive growth and tangible improvements in livelihoods across the continent.
