Abri Motors Introduces EV Transition Program for Fuel Car Owners
Abri Motors has announced a new vehicle replacement and financing initiative aimed at supporting the transition from fuel-powered cars to electric vehicles in Ethiopia.
The company, which has 18 years of experience in vehicle importation, said it is offering both imported and locally assembled electric vehicles in line with government laws and policies. According to Abri Motors, the vehicles are designed to suit Ethiopia’s terrain and environmental conditions, with an emphasis on durability, comfort, and affordability.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Horizon Saving and Credit Cooperative. Under the scheme, owners of fuel-powered vehicles can submit their cars to be listed free of charge on an online platform developed by Abri Motors. The platform, described as the first vehicle-focused e-commerce marketplace in Ethiopia, allows registered users to create buyer and seller accounts, list cars for sale or rent, and access tools that simplify the buying and selling process.
Abri Motors said the platform is designed with a specific focus on electric vehicle adoption, enabling customers to transition from fuel-powered cars to electric alternatives. Once a listed vehicle is sold, 40 percent of the value is covered in cash, while the remaining 60 percent is facilitated through a credit arrangement, making the upgrade to electric vehicles more accessible.

The company added that transactions on the platform are supported by a simplified three-party contractual system, intended to improve transparency and efficiency among sellers, buyers, and financing partners.
Registration for the program is currently underway at Abri Motors’ head office, located at 24. Vehicle owners may also register online by creating an account and uploading photos of their vehicles through the company’s website.
Abri Motors said the initiative forms part of its broader effort to promote electric mobility and modernize vehicle trading in Ethiopia.
Further information is available through the company’s customer service lines.
