Food System Resilience Program Brings Agriculture Development Partners Together in Tigray

By Chekole Alemu

Under the Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Food System Resilience Program, a regional consultative forum linking agriculture development partners and advisory councils is underway in Tigray, bringing renewed focus to rebuilding the region’s agricultural sector after years of conflict.

The Agriculture Development Partners Linkage Advisory Councils forum has brought together representatives from agricultural advisory bodies, senior officials from the Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources, agricultural experts and researchers, heads of agriculture-related institutions and projects, as well as representatives of farmers and civil society organizations.

Opening the forum, the Head of the Tigray Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ato Alem Berhan Harifeyo, said the platform builds on earlier strategic discussions held under the theme “Where is Tigray’s agriculture and natural resources heading?” He noted that previous consultations focused on mobilizing all available agricultural capacities to drive recovery and development.

He added that the current forum aims to strengthen coordination among partners by elevating ongoing efforts to a more structured and inclusive level through in-depth consultations with experts, researchers, and sector leaders.

According to Ato Alem Berhan, the forum is designed to address key constraints affecting food security and agricultural transformation through integrated and collaborative approaches, with the goal of supporting sustainable and resilient agricultural development in the region.

The discussions take place as the regional government places increased emphasis on agriculture as a cornerstone of post-war recovery. The leadership of President of Tigray, General Tadesse Worede, has given due focus on agricultural transformation as a priority area, underscoring its role in restoring livelihoods, improving food security, and stabilizing the regional economy.

Participants are expected to conclude the forum with practical recommendations aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity, improving natural resource management, and enhancing resilience across Tigray’s food system.
