Rwanda, Kigali፡(Horn News Hub)— Climate experts, policy advisors, and media professionals have gathered in Kigali for the two-day Africa Journalists Climate Training (AJCT) 2026, aimed at bolstering media coverage of food systems transformation, climate adaptation, and El Niño preparedness across the continent.
Organized in collaboration with Power Shift Africa, the training brings together journalists to refine evidence-based, solutions-oriented reporting as Africa faces escalating climate risks and agricultural challenges.
Opening the session on Day 1, Bernard Mwinzi set the agenda by emphasizing the crucial role of media in driving accountability and climate action.
Mohamed Adow, Director of Power Shift Africa, highlighted the necessity of reshaping Africa’s food narrative to reflect local solutions and adaptation efforts.
Additionally, AGRA’s Jessie Lafourcade guided participants on engaging with the broader Africa Food Systems Forum, while Nana Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators, delivered the keynote speech on the vital link between informed public discourse, policy context, and climate resilience.
Throughout the first day, participants explored the impacts of climate volatility on food security with Dr. Michael Terungwa (CEO, Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation), and discussed practical strategies for translating complex early warning data into actionable public information with Hannah Kimani of the Kenya Meteorological Services.
