Addis Ababa — A new coalition aimed at advancing gender equality and inclusive governance in Ethiopia has been formally launched, bringing together more than 35 organizations from government, civil society, and development sectors.
The National Feminist Leadership and Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) Advocacy Alliance Ethiopia was inaugurated during a High Level National Advocacy Workshop organized by YWCA Ethiopia in partnership with the Save Your Holy Land Association (SYHLA), under the SPA II Project. The initiative received financial backing from ActionAid Ethiopia.
Senior representatives from government institutions, civil society organizations, women led groups, youth networks, media outlets, and development partners attended the launch event, where they formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the Alliance.
Meaza Ashenafi was among the attendees and delivered a speech at the event, lending her voice to the occasion as the Alliance was formally established.
According to organizers, the coalition is intended to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders working on feminist leadership and human rights based approaches, while pushing for more inclusive policies and greater accountability on gender equality issues nationally.
YWCA Ethiopia said it remains committed to ensuring that the concerns of women, girls, and young people are incorporated into national policy and decision making processes going forward.
Organizers acknowledged ActionAid Ethiopia for its financial contribution and SYHLA for its partnership in bringing the Alliance together, along with all member organizations that joined the initiative.
