Ethiopia’s long-awaited 7th General Election has officially begun, with voting underway across the country and strong voter turnout reported.
More than 54 million voters are registered, marking the largest voter registration in the country’s electoral history.

Voting is ongoing in different parts of the country, with African Union (AU) and IGAD observation missions, alongside election officials, monitoring the process throughout the day.
Ethiopia’s election is also drawing regional attention, given its strategic role in the Horn of Africa, its status as Africa’s second-most populous nation, and as host of the African Union headquarters.
