Ethiopia’s Minister for Labour and Skills, Muferihat Kamil, has outlined key achievements under the country’s ongoing labour and skills reform, emphasizing efforts to build a competitive workforce and expand employment opportunities.

Speaking at a national consultative forum on social development, the minister said nearly 20 million jobs have been created since the reform was introduced. These opportunities span domestic, international, and remote employment channels.

She attributed the gains to a combination of policy measures, including strengthened support for entrepreneurship, expanded partnerships with public and private actors, and the establishment of business incubation platforms. The development of centers of excellence and the full digitalization of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training system were also cited as central to improving skills delivery and aligning training with market demand.

Muferihat noted that the reforms are designed to address structural challenges in the labour market while equipping young people with practical, job-ready skills. She added that continued investment in skills development remains critical to sustaining job creation and supporting broader economic growth.
