U.S. Secretary of State Rubio Holds Phone Call with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy
The United States and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their interest in maintaining cooperation on regional stability and economic development following a phone conversation between senior officials from both governments.
According to a readout released by the U.S. Department of State on March 11, Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, spoke with Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, to discuss areas of mutual interest.
In the brief statement attributed to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the State Department said the two leaders discussed their “shared commitment to regional stability, counterterrorism cooperation, economic prosperity, and building a foundation for long-term security in the Horn of Africa.”
The contact comes as the United States continues to engage with governments across the Horn of Africa on security and development issues. The region remains strategically important due to ongoing security challenges and the need for coordinated efforts on economic growth and stability.
Diplomatic communication between Washington and Addis Ababa has remained active in recent years, reflecting the broader partnership between the two countries on regional security and development matters.
