Tigray Culture and Tourism Bureau Signs Cooperation Agreement with Gumaye Foundation

Addis Ababa, January 23, 2026 — The Tigray Culture and Tourism Bureau (TCTB) and Gumaye Foundation (GF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration in the promotion of Tigrayan culture, heritage preservation, and tourism development. The agreement, formalized today, establishes a framework for joint initiatives aimed at supporting community empowerment and sustainable socio-economic growth in the region.

Under the MoU, both organizations will work together across several key areas including cultural heritage preservation, tourism development, research and innovation, education, cultural literacy, and organizing events and exchange programs.

The TCTB has expressed optimism that the partnership with Gumaye Foundation will strengthen efforts to preserve Tigray’s cultural heritage while promoting tourism and creative industries. Officials highlighted that the collaboration will create opportunities for research, innovation, and educational initiatives that empower local communities and support sustainable socio-economic growth.

The GF CEO, Dr. Hagos Abreha, writes on his social media account that the foundation remains committed to cultural preservation, education, and humanitarian programs. GF has implemented projects ranging from community literacy campaigns and scholarship programs to initiatives that protect and showcase Tigray’s historic sites and artistic traditions. Dr. Hagos noted that the MoU will expand the reach of these programs, enabling broader engagement with local communities and enhancing the visibility of Tigrayan culture nationally and internationally.

The agreement also includes plans for joint events, exchange programs, and collaborative research, providing a platform for cultural dialogue and innovation. Stakeholders view this partnership as a model for linking cultural promotion with education and community development, reinforcing the region’s identity while creating tangible economic and social benefits.
