BreakingNews: Republic of Somaliland Reaffirms Visa on Arrival Policy
The Republic of Somaliland has once again reaffirmed its Visa on Arrival policy for all international travelers, underscoring its commitment to openness, accessibility, and hospitality for visitors from around the world.
In a press statement released today by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Development, Somaliland declared that all foreign travelers arriving at Egal International Airport and other entry points under its jurisdiction will continue to enjoy Visa on Arrival services, without the need for online applications or prior approvals.
This announcement comes at a time when the Mogadishu-based Somalia Federal Government faces heavy criticism for imposing restrictive visa requirements on its own diaspora and international visitors. Many Somalian citizens abroad have voiced frustration, calling it exploitative that the so-called #Somalia government demands them to obtain visas even when returning to their ancestral homeland.

Minister of Civil Aviation, Fuad Ahmed Nuh, emphasized that Somaliland’s policy reflects its vision for open travel, regional connectivity, and economic growth, especially in the business, tourism, and humanitarian sectors. “We welcome our international guests with clarity, consistency, and hospitality,” he stated.
The statement also warned that no Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or visas issued by external authorities will be recognized, reaffirming the sole authority of the Somaliland Immigration Authority.
With this policy, Somaliland positions itself as a traveler-friendly, stable, and investor-ready destination, while Somalia’s policies are being widely condemned as a way to “suck blood from its own citizens” through unnecessary bureaucracy and fees.
Observers note that this bold reaffirmation by #Somaliland strengthens its international reputation as a responsible, forward-looking nation ready to open its doors, while Somalia continues to drive away its own people with outdated and exploitative measures.
