Tigrayan Vocalist Haile Mergeta (Wedi Margie) Passes Away

Horn News Hub has learned of the passing of Haile Mergeta, popularly known as Wedi Margie, a well-known Tigrayan vocalist celebrated for his contribution to Tigrayan music and culture.
Haile passed away on Wednesday afternoon while receiving medical care at Ayder Specialized Hospital in Mekelle. He had reportedly been undergoing treatment for health complications in recent weeks.
Widely recognized for his distinctive vocals, especially through his work on Raya Gumaye, Haile Mergeta’s music resonated deeply with audiences for its reflection of Tigrayan identity and pride.
Beyond his musical career, he was also known for his community engagement and his service with the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) during the recent conflict in the region.
According to family sources, his funeral will be held today in Wojeral 20 Adi, the village where he was born.
