Tigray Interim President General Tadese Werede Visits Adigrat as Part of Ongoing Field Engagements

President of the Tigray Interim Administration, General Tadese Werede, on Tuesday visited Adigrat, continuing a series of field engagements across the region aimed at directly assessing local challenges and engaging with communities.

The visit follows last week’s trip to Alamata in Southern Tigray, which marked the president’s first visit to the town after the lifting of a curfew. That visit was widely seen as part of efforts to restore normalcy and strengthen communication between the interim administration and residents.

Observers say the president’s recent field visits reflect a shift toward direct public engagement, with a focus on listening to community concerns and identifying priority governance and service delivery challenges.

During his visit to Adigrat, President Tadese, accompanied by senior regional officials, conducted an inspection of development activities at Adigrat University. The delegation reviewed ongoing projects, including the university’s dairy farm, which hosts Holland breed cattle, and assessed operational progress.

The president and his delegation also toured Adigrat Hospital, recently integrated with the university, to evaluate its current operational capacity and service delivery.

The visit comes as President Tadese’s federally mandated term nears its conclusion. Based on his appointment by the Federal Government of Ethiopia, only a few days remain in his tenure. However, it remains unclear whether his mandate will be extended or whether a leadership transition will take place, as neither regional nor federal authorities have issued an official statement.

Analysts note that the continued field engagements underscore efforts to maintain governance momentum and strengthen public engagement during a period of political uncertainty in the region.
