Tigray Interim President General Tadesse Worede Arrives in Addis Ababa for Federal Talks

Addis Ababa, — The President of the Tigray Interim Regional Administration, General Tadesse Worede, arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday, leading a delegation for official discussions with the Ethiopian Federal Government on key political, humanitarian, and economic issues affecting the region.

General Tadesse is accompanied by his vice chairman, Amanuel, according to sources working closely with the delegation. His delegation is expected to discuss key issues with senior federal officials, including the withdrawal of non ENDF armed actors from Western Tigray, Eastern and North Western Zones of Tigray, safe return of displaced people, and resumption of political dialogue. The IRA has been urging renewed engagement in line with the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).

In addition to IDP returns, the discussions are expected to address recent federal economic measures that have directly impacted the region. These include the suspension of budgetary transfers and restrictions on bank accounts linked to companies operating in Tigray. Officials within the Interim Administration have raised concerns that these measures are constraining basic service delivery, slowing economic recovery, and exacerbating humanitarian pressures.

The visit underscores the Interim Administration’s efforts to resolve outstanding disputes through direct engagement with federal authorities, at a time when the peace process remains fragile and implementation gaps persist. General Tadesse’s presence in Addis Ababa is seen as a bid to restore cooperation, clarify administrative and fiscal arrangements, and secure practical solutions that align with the spirit and obligations of the Pretoria agreement.

No official timetable or outcome from the talks has yet been announced. However, political observers view the high-level engagement as a critical step in addressing unresolved post-conflict issues and stabilizing relations between the federal government and the Tigray Interim Administration.
