TIGRAYAN ADVOCACY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND JUSTICE IN EUROPE (TAHRJE) unequivocally and unreservedly condemns and denounces the illegal arrest, political persecution, and continued detention of General Guesh Gebre, a widely respected Tigrayan national hero and a principled military leader who defended the people of Tigray during the genocidal war waged against them.
This unlawful act has been carried out by the TPLF Core and “Above-the-Core” military warlord network, operating under the false and deceptive cover of the so-called “Tigray Peace and Security Bureau.” In reality, this structure has become an instrument of authoritarian repression, political cleansing, and organized intimidation against the people of Tigray.
An Illegal Act Amounting to Terrorism and Regional Destabilization
TAHRJE categorically states that the arrest of General Guesh Gebre:
Has no constitutional or legal basis under Ethiopian federal law or Tigray regional law;
Constitutes a politically motivated detention intended to silence dissent and eliminate reformist, neutral, and patriotic military leaders;
Amounts to an act of terror and deliberate destabilization, aimed at plunging Tigray back into internal conflict.
Credible information indicates that this arrest was conducted in coordination with Eritrean military intelligence services—the same foreign force responsible for mass atrocities, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Tigray.
This collaboration represents a historic betrayal of the people of Tigray and an unforgivable alignment with external enemies who sought the destruction of Tigrayan society.
A Direct Violation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement
TAHRJE stresses that this act:
Blatantly violates the Pretoria Peace Agreement (November 2022), which obligates all parties to end hostilities, halt political repression, and respect fundamental rights;
Undermines post-war stabilization efforts;
Recklessly pushes Tigray toward renewed internal conflict and civil war.
Those responsible are actively sabotaging peace and must be recognized as enemies of reconciliation, rule of law, and democratic transition.
Authoritarianism and Repression Against the People of Tigray
The arrest of General Guesh Gebre is not an isolated incident. It is part of a systematic campaign of authoritarian repression by TPLF military warlords who:
Criminalize political neutrality and reformist voices;
Rule through fear, arbitrary arrests, and intimidation;
Betray the sacrifices of the Tigrayan people for narrow factional survival.
TAHRJE strongly condemns this abuse of power and the transformation of Tigray’s institutions into tools of repression rather than public service.
Our Demands
TAHRJE issues the following non-negotiable demands:
Immediate and unconditional release of General Guesh Gebre from all forms of detention;
An end to all politically motivated arrests and persecution in Tigray;
Dissolution and investigation of illegal armed and security structures operating outside constitutional authority;
Full accountability for all individuals involved in this illegal arrest and collaboration with foreign intelligence services.
Appeal to Authorities and the International Community
TAHRJE urgently calls upon:
The Tigray Interim Administration:
To act decisively, restore the rule of law, and immediately order the unconditional release of General Guesh Gebre.
The Ethiopian Federal Government and Federal Human Rights Institutions:
To intervene without delay and halt this unlawful and destabilizing act.
The United States Embassy, European Union, United Kingdom, Germany, and all Western Embassies in Addis Ababa:
To exert maximum diplomatic pressure against this illegal action and hold perpetrators accountable for violating the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
International and Regional Human Rights Organizations:
To investigate, document, and publicly condemn this act of repression.
Tigrayan Diaspora Human Rights Organizations and Media Networks:
To mobilize, amplify, and expose these crimes without fear or hesitation.
Warning
Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity:
Those responsible for this illegal arrest and political persecution will be held accountable.
Impunity will not shield warlords from justice. History, law, and the will of the people will catch up with them.
TAHRJE stands firmly with truth, justice, and human dignity—and with every Tigrayan who refuses to accept repression, betrayal, and authoritarian rule disguised as security.
Silence is complicity. Justice is inevitable.
