Ruto in Ethiopia: President Attends Africa Climate Summit, CARICOM Summit, and GERD Inauguration

ADDIS ABABA – Kenyan President William Ruto has arrived in Ethiopia to participate in a series of high-profile continental gatherings and a historic inauguration.

Ruto is attending the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), hosted in Addis Ababa under the theme “Nature-Based Solutions for Africa’s Resilience.” The summit brings together African leaders, global partners, and civil society to advance green growth, sustainable financing, and collective action on climate change.

The Kenyan head of state will also take part in the Africa-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Summit, which seeks to deepen South-South cooperation between the two regions on trade, climate action, and global governance.

In addition to the summits, President Ruto is expected to grace the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa’s largest hydroelectric facility. The $4 billion project on the Blue Nile is seen by Ethiopia as a symbol of national pride and regional transformation, promising to generate 5,000 megawatts of power and boost electrification across the continent.

President Ruto’s visit underlines Kenya’s growing diplomatic footprint in Africa’s climate diplomacy and its support for Ethiopia’s development ambitions.
