The graduation ceremony of the Raya Cultural Center, established at Raya University to preserve, document, and enhance the economic value of the culture of Raya and surrounding areas, was held on Saturday, with invited guests from various institutions and localities in attendance.

Higher education institutions in Tigray are expected to play a leading role, alongside other stakeholders, in safeguarding cultural heritage, historical identity, and the dignity of local communities. In line with this responsibility, Raya University has taken the initiative to establish a cultural center that reflects the history, identity, and traditions of the Raya people.

The ceremony was attended by Laureate Professor Mitiku Haile, senior regional officials, Raya University leadership, and other invited guests. Participants toured the center and viewed traditional clothing, historical artifacts, cultural materials, and exhibits depicting the lifestyle and heritage of the Raya community.
Speaking at the event, Raya University President Professor Tadese Dejen said the initiative was motivated by a strong commitment to preserve Raya culture and ensure its transmission to future generations.

The Deputy Head of the Tigray Culture and Tourism Bureau, Wro Zenebu Halefom, praised Raya University’s efforts to document and preserve the cultural practices and history of the Raya people. She said the initiative would help promote the culture beyond the region and reaffirmed the bureau’s institutional responsibility to strengthen and sustain the work already underway.

The Raya Cultural Center is expected to serve as a platform for cultural preservation, research, and public engagement, contributing to the protection and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Raya people.
