Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Visits Djibouti for High Level Talks

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Djibouti on an official visit following an invitation from President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

The Prime Minister and his delegation were warmly received by President Guelleh upon arrival, according to officials from both sides. The visit includes high level discussions focused on deepening cooperation and addressing shared regional and international concerns.

In a statement posted on his verified social media account, Prime Minister Abiy said the talks centered on geopolitical dynamics, regional peace and security, and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation. He noted that particular emphasis was placed on trade, logistics, and development, underscoring a shared commitment to stability, economic integration, and mutual prosperity.

Ethiopia and Djibouti maintain close strategic ties, particularly in transport and logistics, with Djibouti serving as Ethiopia’s main maritime gateway. Observers say the visit reflects continued coordination between the two countries on regional stability and economic cooperation in the Horn of Africa.

The discussions are expected to continue during the Prime Minister’s stay, with outcomes likely to shape future cooperation frameworks between Addis Ababa and Djibouti.

As part of the visit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed toured the Port of Djibouti, including the Doraleh Container Terminal (DCT), one of the region’s most vital logistics hubs. The Prime Minister’s visit to the port underscores the importance of Djibouti’s infrastructure in Ethiopia’s trade and economic development. Doraleh Port serves as Ethiopia’s primary maritime gateway, handling a significant portion of the landlocked country’s imports and exports.

During the visit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed explored the potential for further collaboration in port operations, logistics, and trade facilitation, emphasizing the importance of efficient infrastructure to boost economic ties between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Discussions also focused on maximizing mutual economic benefits, with particular attention on improving logistical connectivity and reducing bottlenecks that affect trade flow between the two nations.
