President Tadese Visits Community-Driven Road Project in Tigray, Praises Local Efforts in Regional Recovery
Bizet Woreda, Eastern Zone, Tigray – December 21, 2025
In his first visit after returning from Addis Ababa, President General Tadese Werede today visited a community-driven road construction project in Bizet Woreda, Eastern Tigray, which has made significant strides in the region’s recovery following the devastating conflict. The project, which involves the construction of the Adi Shementay–Hagua Areaga–Ziban Lihay access road, has successfully completed 22 kilometers of gravel road, marking a key milestone in the rebuilding process.

The new road has already begun to transform the lives of local farmers by improving their ability to transport agricultural products to markets. Before the road’s construction, farmers struggled with inadequate infrastructure, limiting their ability to sell produce and access larger markets. Now, with the road in place, transportation has become more efficient, helping to boost income and promote economic stability.
In addition to its economic benefits, the road also provides better access to healthcare services for local communities. Residents, who previously faced long and difficult journeys to reach medical facilities, can now receive timely health services, improving overall community well-being.

During his visit, President Tadese praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of community participation in rebuilding the war-torn region. “This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when local communities take charge of their own development,” he said. “By working together, we can rebuild not only the physical infrastructure but also the social fabric of our society.”
The President emphasized that this community-driven approach should be expanded to other parts of Tigray, urging further investments in local development projects to ensure a sustainable and inclusive recovery. “We must continue to empower communities to lead their own recovery efforts, ensuring that the rebuilding process is rooted in the needs and aspirations of the people,” he added.

Concluding his visit, President Tadese reiterated that the Tigray government and its people are focused on development and peace, not war. “The people of Tigray have always prioritized peace and stability,” he affirmed. “Our commitment is to rebuild and foster prosperity, not to dwell on past conflicts. It is through development and cooperation that we will ensure a brighter future for all Tigrayans.”
