Abiy Ahmed Visits Arbaminch After Returning from UAE to Assess Flood Damage and Support Affected Communities
ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed traveled to Arbaminch shortly after returning from a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, visiting communities affected by recent floods and landslides in the Gamo Zone.

The prime minister arrived in Ethiopia earlier in the day after concluding his visit to the UAE. He then proceeded directly to Arba Minch in southern Ethiopia to pay respects to residents who lost their lives in disaster-hit areas and to assess the situation on the ground.
Days of heavy rainfall in the region triggered severe flooding and landslides, causing widespread destruction in several communities. Local authorities reported that rising waters from the Kulfo River overflowed into nearby neighborhoods, damaging homes, farmland, and public infrastructure.

Emergency teams and local volunteers have been engaged in rescue and relief operations as authorities work to support displaced families and assess the full extent of the damage.
During the visit, Abiy also reviewed ongoing relief efforts and received updates from regional officials and emergency responders working in the affected areas. Government institutions and humanitarian partners are continuing to mobilize resources to assist communities impacted by the disaster.

- Residents across Arbaminch and the wider Gamo Zone are mourning the loss of lives while recovery efforts continue amid concerns about further rainfall in the coming days. Officials say support for affected families and reconstruction of damaged property will be a priority as the situation stabilizes.
