Mekelle Hosts Tigray Platform for Disaster Prevention and Institutional Recovery
Mekelle, Tigray – A comprehensive platform aimed at disaster prevention and the recovery of foundational institutions in Tigray has been launched in the regional capital.

The initiative, titled the “Tigray Foundational Institutions Disaster Prevention and Recovery Platform,” was inaugurated by General Tadesse Werede, President of the Tigray Interim Administration, and General Gebre Adhana, Commissioner of the Tigray Police Commission. The event brought together over 600 participants, including federal support personnel, leaders of the Tigray Defense Force, and administrators from various zones and woredas.

During the event, officials emphasized the need to prioritize key sectors with critical infrastructure, including telecommunications, electricity, water supply, and airport services. They noted that restoring foundational institutions is a collective responsibility involving government offices, communities, private investors, and security agencies.
Representatives from major companies, including Safaricom, Ethio Telecom, Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopian Electric Power, and CCCC, also attended the platform to contribute to discussions and collaborative efforts.

The Tigray Bureau of Communication Affairs highlighted that service-providing institutions in the region could achieve sustainable operations and mitigate losses by adopting preventive measures and recovery strategies to maintain uninterrupted services.
