Mekelle City Administration has finalized a ten-year strategic plan designed to guide the city’s long-term development. The plan incorporates input from professionals, city officials, and regional experts to ensure that future initiatives are well-structured and effectively implemented.

During a briefing on the plan, Tigray Regional vice President Dr. Amanuel Asefa highlighted the collaborative approach behind its development. He said that contributions from specialists helped shape ideas and innovations to strengthen the city’s growth, and that demographic, social, and economic factors were carefully considered to encourage inclusive participation from all segments of the population.

Mekelle City Mayor Dr. Redae Berha noted that the plan is ready for implementation and emphasized the extensive participation of stakeholders in its preparation. He described the plan as a practical roadmap for the city, drawing on Mekelle’s experience and lessons learned from other urban centers to ensure effective project execution.

Officials from the City Planning and Construction Bureau, along with Tigray regional directorates, contributed to the plan’s development. Dr. Kesate, Director of the City Planning Directorate, explained that the ten-year plan includes financial planning, implementation strategies, and legal frameworks to guarantee that city projects are carried out efficiently.

The strategic plan is expected to guide Mekelle’s growth across economic, social, and infrastructural sectors over the next decade, with full participation from relevant stakeholders in the city administration.
