Haftay Gebre-Egzabhier Nominated as Prosperity Party Candidate for Addis Ababa City Council
The Prosperity Party has announced Haftay Gebre-Egzabhier, currently Head of the Communication Office of the Addis Ababa City Administration, as one of its candidates for the upcoming seventh national election in Addis Ababa.
Haftay will contest for a seat on the Addis Ababa City Council representing Bole Sub-City.

The announcement was made during a forum held on 13 April by the party’s Addis Ababa branch to introduce candidates for both the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the City Council.
Speaking at the event, Adanech Abiebie said the forum was intended to strengthen coordination and ensure the party fulfills its responsibilities ahead of the election. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a credible electoral process and encouraging democratic participation.
Moges Balcha, head of the party’s Addis Ababa branch, said the party’s political approach is grounded in the Medemer philosophy, which promotes collective effort and national prosperity. According to him, the selection of candidates reflects diversity and a people centered approach.
Gebre-Egzabhier expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve the public with dedication. Among many observers and colleagues, he is often described as one of the most vibrant voices for reform among the younger generation of Tigrean elites, advocating change, broader inclusion, and constructive engagement in national politics.

He also noted that the party’s election symbol, the wheat sheaf, represents unity, cooperation, and sovereignty.
Preparations for the seventh national election are being overseen by the National Election Board of Ethiopia, which is responsible for administering the vote and coordinating the electoral process at both federal and local levels.
