Global Properties Announces Upcoming Modern Apartment Project in Mekelle

Mekelle, December 31, 2025

Global Properties has announced plans to launch a new modern apartment project in the heart of Mekelle, positioning the development as part of broader private sector efforts to support postwar reconstruction and urban renewal in Tigray.

According to the company, the project will feature contemporary architectural design and high quality construction materials, with a mix of studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, and three bedroom apartments. The development is intended to serve residential needs as well as commercial and institutional purposes, reflecting growing demand for flexible urban spaces in Mekelle.

Global Properties said the project is guided by the slogan “Building Community, Beyond Housing,” emphasizing not only physical housing but also community oriented urban living. The company describes the development as combining comfort, functionality, and modern city life, targeting both local residents who can afford to invest and members of the Tigrayan diaspora seeking long term property investments.

In a phone interview with Horn News Hub, Abrehet Ayele, Chief Executive Officer of Abri Business Group, said the apartment project is a subsidiary initiative under the group’s wider business portfolio. Abri Business Group owns Global Properties and has operated in Tigray and Addis Ababa for the past 18 years.

Abrehet noted that the project was initially launched before the outbreak of the two year war in Tigray but was suspended due to the conflict. She said the resumption of the development reflects renewed confidence in recovery and reconstruction efforts following the cessation of hostilities.

“Tigray has suffered extensive damage due to the war, but the focus now must be on rebuilding,” she said, calling on both residents and the diaspora to contribute to reconstruction through investment and economic engagement.

Beyond real estate, Abri Business Group is expanding its activities in multiple sectors, including automotive services through Abri Motors, financial services through Horizon SACO, as well as agriculture, technology, health, and import export businesses. According to the company, these investments are aimed at stimulating economic activity, job creation, and long term development in the region.

The announcement comes amid wider discussions on the role of private investment in Tigray’s recovery. While humanitarian needs remain acute, business led initiatives such as housing and infrastructure development are increasingly viewed as critical to restoring normal economic life and supporting sustainable urban growth in postconflict Mekelle.
